What is SEO? (Search Engine Optimization)

What is ‘SEO’?

Search engine optimization, or ‘SEO’, is the process of improving your website’s visibility when customers use search engines such as Google or Bing to look for products or services related to your company (taken from laymen). The more exposure your pages have in search results, the more likely you are to draw new clients to your business.

How does it work?

Search engines such as Google use bots to crawl the web, travelling from site to site, collecting information about them, and indexing them. Consider the index to be a large library where a librarian can help you find exactly what you’re looking for by pulling up a book (or a web page).

The algorithms then analyse the sites in the index, using hundreds of ranking criteria or signals, to determine the order in which they should appear in search results for a given query.
